Recasting Egalitarianism: New Rules for Communities, States and Markets (Real Utopias Project (Series) , V. 3.)
Published in Paperback by Verso Books (January, 1999)
Average review score:

rigorous exploration of how to end inequalityAll the contributors to this volume are seriously committed to solving the persistent riddle of economic inequality in advanced economies as well as preventing the undermining of democracy by the concentration of wealth and power in the hands of a few. To this end, they set out bold proposals which transcend the pitfalls of both corporate capitalism and the now defunct, East European socialisms. Issues such as property rights, housing, school choice, political associations, economic efficiency and the benefits of asset redistribution are all discussed with rigor and clarity by the several contributors. All the topics are excellent counterblasts to the current aopologists for Conservative policies in the era of 'globalization'. This one is a must for all those concerned about the future of economic justice and the evolution of democratic societies.

Regeneration: A Novelization (X-Files (Juvenile), No 14)
Published in Hardcover by HarperTrophy (December, 1999)
Average review score:

The X-Files: RegenerationThis is a book of The X-Files episode "Leonard Betts". It is one of the scariest episodes, and the end of it leads to the revelation of Scully's cancer, which is obviously a very important event in the history of The X-Files, as any fan of the show will know. It is also hardback, which I greatly appreciated, and is well worth the money.

Revolutionary War: A Sourcebook on Colonial America
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Average review score:

Historical visual documents from the American RevolutionThe volumes in the Sourcebook on Colonial America provide original visual documents from the period of the American Revolution: maps, prints, drawings, engravings, and broadsides, all of which are preserved in the Library of Congress. These are some of the primary documents used by historians and because most of them are in black and white (others are tinted), they can easily be photocopied and used as handouts, bulletin board displays, or as illustrations in reports. The "Revolutionary War" is divided into three sections: (1) April 1775-June 1776: The Fight for a New Nation Begins; (2) July 1776-January 1778: Declaring Liberty; Struggling to Survive; and (3) February 1778-February 1783: Triumphs of Diplomacy and Arms. Each section begins with a four page Timeline of Major Events divided between World History and Colonial History. Among the gems in this particular volume, there is an engraving of the Battle of Bunker Hill, Thomas Jefferson's handwritten first page of the Declaration of Independence, the British surrender document at Yorktown, and several wonderful political cartoons of the period. There are also contemporary picturs of most of the major military figures of the war from George Washington to Francis Marion, a.k.a. "The Swamp Fox" (the model for the Mel Gibson character in "The Patriot"). Other volumes in this series look at "Daily Life," "The Arts and Sciences" and "The Explorers and Settlers." The Library of Congress also has Sourcebook series dealing with the Civil War, the American West, and the U.S. Presidency. These are wonderful supplemental works for American History teachers to use as best they can in their classrooms.
